Imagine 181st Street clear of buses and parked cars. Imagine a bike lane. Imagine clean air.
A group of Washington Heights residents, most who live near the busy street, met with representatives of the Department of Transportation, the Metropolitan Transit Authority and an urban planning consulting firm to brainstorm solutions to reduce congestion.

Contrary to popular belief New York City does have a few Latino Republicans (and at least one influential “independent” voter). Surprisingly, unlike previous political campaigns, they have laid low during these elections.
One of the most notable Latino Republicans, former Congressman Herman Badillo, became a Republican in 1998 after about twenty-five years as a Democrat. Even though he originally supported Guiliani, he became frustrated with Guiliani’s stance on immigration. For the Super Tuesday elections Badillo backs McCain.

Raggedy Animal learned how to roller-skate a little over a year ago. She wanted to try out for the Gotham Girls Roller Derby League, the women’s roller derby league in New York City. After the rigorous tryouts, the Brooklyn Bombshells drafted the Washington Heights resident.
A college professor by day and roller derby girl by night, Raggedy Animal, who preferred not to use her real name because she did not want her students to recognize her, said that roller derby felt like an addiction.

When Joshua Rozenberg walked into Dougie Doug’s café on 184th street and Amsterdam, he carried a rolled up poster in his hand. He looked like a young entrepreneur with his long black wool coat, stripped collared shirt and Blackberry. In fact, as vice president of the Yeshiva University (YU) student union, Rozenberg did have a lot of responsibility: to plan and execute one of the universities largest community events — the annual Hanukkah concert.

Manhattan Times published another one of my stories. This article focused on the recent release of grades by the NYC Department of Education and how it scored Muscota/P.S. 314 (it got an ‘F’).
