El Lapiz has became a pretty known personage from the DR thats why has been having so much problems with other street singers from the Dominicans street like Vaquero and Puertorican hip hop singers like Arcangel. I think its because of envy you don't see a Dominican rapper like El Lapiz succeed the way he has been doing it. I am very proud of him.

Very good writing! Nice to see someone blog about the Washington Heights community--and eloquently done I might add. Although it seems like your latest posts are in Spanish and unfortunately, my Spanish isn't that good. However, I'm sure it's just as good as the English postings. Keep up the good work!

The areas along the river that flood at the slightest high tides
might be better served by condemning the land for habitations and paying to move the residents to high ground elsewhere.

Interested in what Pitkin Avenue was like in the 40's and 50's when I lived there?
Read my chapters on that in "Brownsville: The Jewish Years" (amazon.com). The stores on the avenue were elegant, while we lived in substandard tenements, some had no heat or hot water.
